STATEMENT

From the first stroke, painting is movement. I begin inside an imaginary language of form that transcends from the subconscious to the ordinary. The concept of an abstract landscape has given me a way to explore experience beyond the tricks of the concrete visual world. I experiment with memory and its infinitely productive themes, and memory entwined with imagination, as the reflection of a non-reality, or a state of understanding that we do not yet know how to delineate in any other medium. Intuition plays a critical role in how I work, and the principal mechanism of my composition is movement: dynamic lines become fixed in paint and so come to represent a moment within a dynamic, unrepeating and unrepeatable universe.
